About Wolcott Lilac Gardens

Wolcott Lilac Gardens features a historic Western Reserve Gothic Revival house built in 1863, set amid gardens that visitors tour along rambling paths during seasonal open hours. The gardens were established in 1920 when Daisy Wolcott received 100 lilacs from her uncle, and she opened them to the public in the 1930s. Spring visitors encounter lilacs, flowering trees, spring bulbs, violets, roses, garden phlox, and peonies throughout the grounds. A gazebo, arbor, and waterfall with koi inhabit the restored landscape. The property includes the original house with its library wing and period rooms. Tours suit anyone interested in historic gardens, horticultural heritage, and early twentieth-century domestic architecture. Leashed dogs accompany visitors. The gardens are located in Kent, Ohio, with parking at a nearby church and entrance at the back of the lot. The property operates as a nonprofit organization.
