About Tinley Park Historical Society
The Tinley Park Historical Society operates two museums on its campus in Tinley Park: the Landmark Chapel and the adjacent Schoolhouse Museum. Visitors tour the chapel, built in 1884, which features stained glass windows, a pressed tin ceiling, and an organ. The schoolhouse museum displays exhibits on early businesses, farms, and schools from the area's history. The society preserves the community's past since its roots in the pioneer settlement of Batchelor's Grove in the early 1830s, through the arrival of the Rock Island and Pacific railroad in 1851, and into the twentieth century when industrial enterprises like the Diamond Spiral Manufacturing Company and Ironite factory operated locally. The museums welcome visitors during scheduled open hours, and group tours and special viewing arrangements are available by contacting the society directly.
