About The Sherman Museum

The Sherman Museum houses three oil-on-wood paintings by Texas artist James Swann, installed in 1914 within the former Carnegie Library building in Sherman. Visitors explore a collection of 95 educational dolls, many handmade, including pieces from Forest Avenue Baptist Church mission trainings and ethnic clothing displays from the 1970s. The museum occupies two historic buildings: the Carnegie Library, one of only a handful remaining in Texas and now on the National Registry of Historic Places, and the adjacent Church of Christ building, notable for its 48 original stained-glass windows. Over 50,000 artifacts are preserved across these structures. Group activities and children's workshops serve schools and organizations, with off-site and traveling exhibits extending the museum's reach across Grayson County. On-site parking and accessible facilities including an elevator and handicap restroom are available to visitors.
