Sherman Jazz Museum preserves and celebrates jazz history through artifacts and collections from legendary musicians of the jazz era. Visitors explore exhibits featuring memorabilia from Dizzy Gillespie, Duke Ellington, Maynard Ferguson, Doc Severinsen, and assorted big bands. The museum houses an extensive trumpet collection that appeals particularly to trumpet enthusiasts and jazz fans alike. Founder Bill Collins III established the museum in 2010 to educate the public about jazz's impact on American culture and to preserve recordings and historical items before they disappear. The museum's displays showcase the lives and music of past jazz innovators through carefully curated exhibits. A family mascot, a Shih-poo named "The Count" Baci, can sometimes be spotted during visits. Located at 201 E. Lamar in Sherman, Texas, the museum opens on Thursdays, though visitors should check the schedule as hours may vary seasonally. The building is not wheelchair accessible.
Hours: Thursdays from 1 – 5 p.m.
