About The Grove

The Grove is a private residence and tour home in Jefferson, Texas, built in 1861 by Frank and Minerva Stilley. Visitors tour the house as it stands largely unchanged from its original construction, with only minor structural additions made in 1870 and the 1930s. The home is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and designated a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark. The Grove has become known as one of the most haunted locations in Texas, with documented ghost stories spanning over 100 years. Notable spirits include a lady in a white dress who travels the same path through the house, a man in the garden striding through the lily beds, and a mischievous entity in the den. An early owner famously fled in 1882, leaving only the explanation that his family could not live there.
