About The Anaheim Historical Society

The Anaheim Historical Society preserves and celebrates the local history of Orange County's oldest city through educational programs and community events. Founded in 1976, the organization holds multiple free events throughout the year and sponsors local history projects that engage members and the broader community. The society has nominated two of Anaheim's significant historical buildings to the National Register of Historic Places: the 1925 Samuel Kraemer Building, Anaheim's first skyscraper, and the Anaheim Public Library, a gift from Andrew Carnegie in 1908. The organization also helped secure National Register status for the Mother Colony House, built in 1857, and the Woelke-Stoeffel House, built in 1894. Over four thousand third grade students tour these historic facilities annually as part of Anaheim's local history program. The society has published several books and hosted historic home tours showcasing Anaheim's architectural treasures. Special events spotlighting various local historical subjects occur throughout the year in Anaheim, California.
