About Texas Transportation Museum

Texas Transportation Museum operates Model Railroads in multiple scales, including a 1,300-foot Garden Railroad with G-Scale loops, a live steam section, and Thomas the Tank Engine, plus indoor layouts from O, HO, N, and Z scales maintained by volunteer railroad clubs. Visitors ride the Longhorn and Western Railroad, a private volunteer-built rail line that departs from a historic Southern Pacific depot, travels a half-mile to a rail supply yard and the recreated town of Wallaceville, and returns in ten to fifteen minutes aboard a flat car or caboose pulled by rotating diesel and steam engines. The museum displays vintage locomotives, classic automobiles, trucks, and early road transportation vehicles representing Texas's transportation history. The collection includes railroad cars, a static display walk-through, and exhibits from the South Texas Bus Preservationists. Train rides are included with general admission. The museum is volunteer-run and located in San Antonio.
