About Seneca County Ohio Museum

The Seneca County Museum in Tiffin preserves local history through artifacts, photographs, and stories that shaped the community. Visitors explore the former home of businessman Rezin W. Shawhan, a historic house built in the Fort Ball-Railroad Historic District and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The drawing room displays Shawhan's portrait, offering insight into the life of the merchant who arrived in Tiffin in 1832 and expanded from storekeeping into real estate and banking. The museum hosts guided tours, with visitors encountering exhibits that connect generations through everyday and extraordinary moments from Seneca County's past. The museum also presents monthly speaker series events and maintains educational programs supported by the Barnes-Deinzer Seneca County Museum Foundation. The museum opens Wednesday through Saturday, with last entry at 4 p.m. All visits are conducted as guided tours.
