Roger Tory Peterson Institute is a museum in Jamestown, New York, dedicated to the artist and naturalist who created the modern field guide. The museum houses the largest collection of Peterson's original artwork, films, photographs and archival materials. Inside, families visit Roger's Art Studio to draw on the walls, browse the museum store, and attend art classes and festive opening night celebrations. The 27-acre Peterson Preserve surrounds the building with hemlock forest, woodlands, wildflower gardens and two half-mile nature trails. Trails wind past carved sculptures, bluebird feeders, pollinator meadows, benches and a covered gazebo. Children under ten must be accompanied by an adult. The museum publishes admission prices online and is open Tuesday through Sunday, with Monday visits by appointment.
