About Martz Observatory
Martz Observatory in Frewsburg, New York is a volunteer-run facility where visitors look through large-aperture telescopes to observe the night sky. The observatory houses several instruments, including the Martz 24-inch reflector equipped with a Kepler KL4040FI camera for deep-sky imaging. Open Observatory Night happens every Wednesday evening with no reservation or admission required. On the third Wednesday of most months, the lecture series brings NASA scientists, university professors, and amateur astronomers to speak on topics ranging from the James Webb Space Telescope and black holes to Mars rovers and astrophotography. The facility offers a Library Telescope Loan Program through fifteen local libraries, allowing visitors to borrow telescopes with a library card. The observatory also runs an annual Space STEM Camp and hosts school and scout group visits. The volunteer-run operation serves anyone curious about astronomy and citizen science.
