About North Carolina Botanical Garden

North Carolina Botanical Garden is a 1,200-acre conservation garden in Chapel Hill where visitors explore display gardens, natural areas, and forest preserves. The main site features an Exhibit Hall and DeBerry Gallery alongside wildflower beds and native plantings. Visitors walk three miles of trails through the Piedmont Nature Trails, following creeks and observing wildflowers. The garden manages five additional major sites: Coker Arboretum showcases trees and shrubs from the eastern U.S. and Asia; Battle Park preserves a 93-acre old-growth forest untouched since the 1700s; Mason Farm Biological Reserve hosts over 800 plant species, 216 bird species, and dozens of mammals, fish, reptiles, amphibians, and butterflies on a two-mile loop; Parker Preserve features 19th-century cabin ruins and elevation changes through oak-hickory forests; and Coker Pinetum offers two trails through early successional pines and hardwoods. The garden offers Nature Tales programs and seasonal plant sales. General admission is free.
