About Mercer Williams House Museum

The Mercer Williams House Museum is a historic house museum in Savannah where visitors take guided tours of a restored Renaissance Revival mansion. Tours last approximately 35 minutes and run first come, first served every 20 to 40 minutes throughout the day. The house, completed in 1868, features 15-foot ceilings, floor-length windows, and a 60-foot entrance hall with original English ceramic tile. Visitors see the home's original moldings, windows, doorways, hand-railings, interior shutters, flooring, and an interior dome with stained glass. The rooms are decorated with 18th and 19th century Regency and Empire furniture, portraiture by Gilbert Stuart and Thomas Hudson, Chinese export porcelain, and other antiques from the private collection of James A. Williams, the preservationist who restored the house in the 1970s. The entrance is located behind the main house. Parties of six or more can arrange reservations in advance.
