About Georgia State Railroad Museum

Georgia State Railroad Museum occupies the former Central of Georgia Railway Repair Shops Complex in Savannah, housing the oldest railroad repair facility buildings in the United States. Visitors operate a working handcar, walk through historic railcars, and take guided train tours available select days. Exhibits and tours explore railroad history, technological advancement, industrial slavery, and segregation across more than a century of the complex's operation. The museum also functions as an active preservation space where staff restore historic buildings, locomotives, railcars, and machinery. Admission is charged, with prices published online and tickets sold through the venue's website. The museum is located in Savannah, Georgia.
