About Ships Of The Sea Maritime Museum

Ships of the Sea Maritime Museum occupies the William Scarbrough House, an 1819 Greek Revival mansion in historic downtown Savannah. Visitors explore ship models, paintings, and maritime antiques from the 18th and 19th centuries, including a model of the SS Savannah, the first steamship to cross any ocean. The museum is arranged for self-guided tours through the galleries, where guests typically spend at least an hour. The grounds feature the largest private gardens within Savannah's historic district, designed to reflect a typical 19th-century parlor garden. The current exhibition, Drawn to the Sea, presents four historic vessels through comics and visual narrative. The museum hosts lectures, workshops, and special events throughout the year. Tickets are sold online on the venue's site, and admission prices are published there. The museum operates daily and welcomes group tours of ten or more with advance reservations.
