Ships of the Sea Maritime Museum occupies the William Scarbrough House, an 1819 Greek Revival mansion in historic downtown Savannah. Visitors explore ship models, paintings, and maritime antiques from the 18th and 19th centuries, including a model of the SS Savannah, the first steamship to cross any ocean. The museum is arranged for self-guided tours through the galleries, where guests typically spend at least an hour. The grounds feature the largest private gardens within Savannah's historic district, designed to reflect a typical 19th-century parlor garden.
