About Matthews Historical Foundation

The Matthews Historical Foundation, a nonprofit organization established in 1987, operates two historic properties in downtown Matthews: the Reid House and the Massey-Clark House, which together tell 150 years of local history. Visitors explore the Matthews Heritage Museum, housed in the renovated Massey-Clark House, where they can view exhibits showcasing the town's past. The foundation offers guided tours for school groups, Scout troops, social clubs, and church organizations by advance reservation. The Reid House, a Queen Anne Victorian built in 1890, serves as an event venue. The foundation also hosts community meetings featuring local history presentations and operates educational programs including the Matthews Memories project and the Matthews Remembered DVD. A quarterly newsletter keeps members informed about foundation activities and preservation efforts. Located in downtown Matthews, North Carolina, near Charlotte, the foundation serves the surrounding region including Pineville, Ballantyne, Waxhaw, and Indian Trail.
