About Matthews Heritage Museum
The Matthews Heritage Museum preserves and shares the history of Matthews through engaging exhibits, educational programs, and community storytelling. Located in the 1879 Massey-Clark House in downtown Matthews, the museum connects past and present for visitors of all ages. Inside, rotating and permanent exhibits highlight early settlement and town development, railroad and business history, schools, churches, and civic life, military service and community traditions, and stories of the people who built Matthews. The current temporary exhibit, Treasures of the Sea, features a colorful collection of seashells from around the world. The museum offers docent-led tours, school programs, special exhibits, and public talks. A typical visit takes thirty to sixty minutes. General admission is free. The museum is within walking distance of downtown shops, restaurants, and Stumptown Park, with free public parking available nearby.
