About Mark Smith Planetarium

Mark Smith Planetarium offers immersive full-dome experiences using contemporary audio and visual technology to take audiences through time and space. The 44-foot dome features 360-degree projection that surrounds viewers seated in the theater. Three shows run daily when the museum is open, each tailored to the age group present. The Family Feature Show at 11:30 a.m. presents animated, kid-friendly content suited to ages 3 through 10 and lasts about 30 minutes. At 2:00 and 4:00 p.m., the Live Sky Tour and Space Exploration program begins with a guided tour of the night sky identifying constellations and planets, followed by an instructional recorded show from the planetarium's catalog; these 45-minute programs suit ages 8 and up. Beyond daily shows, special monthly programs include Third Friday night sky talks by local amateur astronomers and Fractal Fridays featuring geometric pattern visualizations. Special astronomical events occur throughout the year, particularly during significant sky events like eclipses. The planetarium is located in Macon, Georgia.
