About Los Angeles Maritime Institute (LAMI)
The Los Angeles Maritime Institute in San Pedro operates tall ships where visitors can sail on the water and experience maritime education. The brigantines offer monthly sunset sails and special events throughout the year. The institution runs the Topsail Youth Program and Topsail STEM Program, providing hands-on maritime learning for young people. Sea Scouts and Youth Crew programs allow participants to develop sailing skills and leadership experience. The Maritime Youth Leadership Ambassadors program trains emerging leaders in maritime traditions. Summer camp programs include Tall Ship Island Adventure Sea Camp, where participants engage in extended sailing experiences. The institute also offers Explore the Coast activities and Virtual Voyage digital resources for those unable to visit in person. Educational resources are available for teachers and students. Visitors board the tall ships in San Pedro, where they can participate in sails, observe maritime operations, and learn about ocean exploration and seamanship.
