About Lloyd Library & Museum

The Lloyd Library & Museum is a world-renowned independent research library and exhibit space in Cincinnati devoted to bringing science, art, and history to life. Visitors explore rare books, manuscripts, photographs, medicinal products, original art, and artifacts spanning from 1493 to the present. The collections focus on botany, pharmacy, natural history, medicine, scientific history, and visual arts, including complementary subjects like chemistry, voyages and travels, agriculture, and horticulture. The George Rieveschl, Jr. History of Pharmaceutical Chemistry Exhibit features the Lloyd Cold Still, an invention used by the Lloyd brothers in plant-based medicine research and production. Changing exhibits highlight Lloyd collections and research themes throughout the year. The library was established by three pharmacist brothers—John Uri, Nelson Ashley, and Curtis Gates Lloyd—who manufactured botanical drugs beginning in the late nineteenth century. General admission is free. The institution serves scientists, historians, artists, gardeners, members of the natural health movement, and the general public.
