About Knapp Heritage Park

Knapp Heritage Park preserves Arlington's early history through three restored structures and several historic artifacts displayed on landscaped grounds in downtown Arlington. Visitors explore the Jopling-Melear and Watson cabins, furnished with authentic period pieces from the mid-1800s, and a one-room schoolhouse built in 1910 with interiors reflecting late-nineteenth and early-twentieth-century education. The park also features a Bardin blacksmith barn and a replica general store housed in James Knapp's former law office. Additional exhibits include the original trough bowl from Arlington's once-famous mineral well, a water tower that belonged to the city's first mayor George Finger, and an early-version windmill. The park accommodates school tours, private tours, and rental events. Operated by the Arlington Historical Society, the site holds three Texas Historical Markers and Arlington Landmark status. The park opens on weekends and during special events throughout the year.
