About CR Smith Museum

The CR Smith Museum in Fort Worth explores the history of aviation and American Airlines through interactive exhibits, historical artifacts, and a restored 1940 Douglas DC-3 airliner. Visitors walk through displays explaining airline operations and meet the people who run American Airlines daily. The museum features hundreds of photographs and artifacts alongside full-scale aircraft engines. The centerpiece is the accessible DC-3, housed in a custom hangar and restored by American Airlines team members. A 4K digital theater shows Why I Fly, a film sharing inspirational stories from airline employees. The museum opened in 1993 and underwent significant remodeling in 2018 to add new interactive exhibits designed for all age groups. Whether interested in aviation history, airline operations, or the legacy of C.R. Smith, the innovative aviation pioneer who led American Airlines, visitors find detailed information about how commercial air travel developed and operates.
