The Indian Museum of Lake County preserves Native American history through exhibits and hands-on learning experiences. Visitors explore a collection of over 26,000 prehistoric artifacts spanning from 10,000 B.C. to 1650 A.D., along with Native American crafts from 1800 to 2008. The museum conducts one to two hour programs for school groups, home school groups, youth organizations and families, focusing on the Whittlesey people, the last Native Americans to inhabit the area before European arrival. The museum library holds over 1,000 books and periodicals supporting student research from elementary through adult levels. Special programs feature Native American speakers and craftspeople discussing different cultures and archaeological work, with workshops available for students, teachers and adults. The gift shop offers authentic arts and crafts from Indigenous artists across the United States and Northeast Ohio. Located in Mentor, Ohio, the museum is handicap accessible with free parking and publishes admission prices online.
