About Haverstraw Beach State Park

Haverstraw Beach State Park is a Hudson River shoreline park north of the Rockland Lake golf course in Haverstraw, New York. Visitors walk the rocky beach, explore the wide river shoreline with driftwood and rocks, and access the Hook Mountain/Nyack Beach Bikeway and Hudson River Greenway that run through the park. The beach is known as a historic meeting place where British Major John Andre came ashore under cover of night to meet with General Benedict Arnold. The site also marks Haverstraw's industrial past, including the Snedeker family shipyard where brickyard barges were repaired and day-line boats stopped before a fire destroyed the dock. In the early twentieth century, the location was called Redstone Beach and served as a local swimming hole. The park opens at dawn and closes at dusk. No restrooms are available on-site.
