The Harvey-Baker House, also known as the First Mayor's House, is the oldest building in Salinas and serves as a history, art and cultural center. Visitors explore this structure, which was one of the first buildings constructed in Salinas City and was home to the Harvey-Baker family for over 100 years before restoration to the 1870s era. The house now operates as a non-profit institution offering educational and cultural programs that showcase local history. Interactive visits for elementary students in grades three and five provide hands-on learning experiences led by docents. The organization also offers teacher professional development programs, community exhibitions, and special events throughout the year. Field trips are available for school groups. The restored house and its grounds are maintained by over 20 volunteers who work as docents and in the gardens. The Harvey-Baker House is located in Salinas, California, near the Amtrak Station.
