About Greensburg Volunteer Fire Department Museum

The Greensburg Volunteer Fire Department Museum preserves the history of firefighting through antique equipment and restored engines displayed at its current location in Greensburg, Pennsylvania. Visitors examine the Pat Lyon, a fire engine built in Philadelphia in 1805 that served Pittsburgh before being purchased by Greensburg in 1852 and later restored to its original condition. The Goodwill, constructed in 1825 in Pittsburgh's North Side, also arrived in Greensburg during the early 1850s and underwent restoration in the 1990s. A 1949 Seagrave Pumper commissioned by future Fire Chief John Edward Hutchinson is still driven in parades and ceremonial events. The museum houses a 1932 Mack Pumper, the Charles Horan Model Fire Vehicle Room containing over 1000 collectible fire service toys, parade uniforms, and artifacts from major fires throughout Greensburg and Westmoreland County. General admission is free. The museum operates on the second Tuesday of each month and the fourth Saturday of each month, and opens by appointment.
