Ghost Walk of Old Wilmington is a 90-minute walking tour through historic downtown Wilmington led by costumed professional guides who recount paranormal stories. Visitors explore the city's most actively haunted locations, hearing accounts of ghostly occurrences spanning centuries to recent guest encounters. The tour visits five or six of more than thirty researched haunted sites, which vary nightly. Notable stops include the Latimer House, an antebellum mansion where unexplained phenomena and a rotting smell have been reported in the basement; St. James Graveyard, built in 1739 and considered one of North Carolina's most haunted burial grounds; the Bellamy Mansion with its infamous Children's Floor; and Gallows Hill, described as one of the city's most frightening haunted sites. Research for the tours began in 1978 with interviews of hundreds of locals and examination of historical documents, letters, and diaries. The Ghost Walk operates in Wilmington, North Carolina, and has entertained more than half a million guests since tours began in 1999.
