About Eames Institute

The Eames Institute of Infinite Curiosity in Richmond, California houses the Eames Archives, a comprehensive collection of more than 40,000 objects related to designers Ray and Charles Eames. Visitors explore furniture, films, prototypes, exhibition materials, tools, correspondence, and personal belongings drawn largely from the Eameses' own Venice office. Guided tours led by knowledgeable docents run approximately 60 minutes on Thursdays and Fridays, limited to groups of 12. During a tour, visitors read private correspondence, examine original drawers from the design studio, and participate in a "chair tasting" experience that allows them to sit in 15 pieces of iconic Eames seating. The Archives reveals unexpected connections across projects and disciplines, showcasing not only what the Eames created but also the ideas, objects, and interests that shaped their creative practice.
