About Casa del Herrero
Casa del Herrero, the "House of the Blacksmith," is a Spanish Colonial Revival estate in Montecito that visitors tour by reservation. Docent-led tours of the Main House, Workshop, and grounds run Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 10 AM and 2 PM, while Thursday visits focus on the Workshop and in-depth garden exploration. Creative Sessions in the Garden offer self-guided access to the grounds on Thursdays and Sundays. The 1920s-1930s estate, designed by an architect and built for industrialist George Fox Steedman, features Moorish-inspired and Country Place Era gardens, historic fountains, a greenhouse complex, and a blacksmith's workshop. Visitors should note that children under 10 are not permitted on docent-led tours, service animals only are allowed, and parking is limited. Those receiving SNAP food assistance benefits can gain reduced admission of $5 through Museums for All, and American Horticulture Society reciprocal members can book half-price tickets by phone.
