About Baylor Bear Habitat

The Bill and Eva Williams Bear Habitat at Baylor University in Waco is home to live American black bears that have been part of the campus since 1917. Visitors observe the bears in their habitat and learn about these animals through educational experiences designed to connect people with wildlife. The Habitat features individual bears including Judge Indy and Judge Belle. The facility operates according to three core principles: stewardship, education, and conservation. The Habitat provides state-of-the-art care for its bears and partners with the campus community to maintain industry-leading animal care standards. The Habitat is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, making Baylor the first university in the world to receive this designation. It also holds regulatory licensing from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. A visit suits anyone interested in observing American black bears and learning about wildlife conservation and protection efforts.
