About Youngstown Steel Heritage Museum

The Youngstown Steel Heritage Museum in Youngstown, Ohio is a living history museum dedicated to preserving and operating steam power equipment from the steel industry. Visitors explore the Tod Engine and the Tod McDonald Rolling Mill, which demonstrates how steam drove industrial production. The museum operates the J&L 58 steam locomotive, which moves materials around the grounds as it did during the steel mill era. On select Sundays, the museum offers Steam Locomotive Engineer for a Day experiences, allowing visitors to participate hands-on with the locomotive. The museum is the only place in North America focused specifically on the history and operation of steam power in steel manufacturing. General admission is free. The museum opens Wednesday through Sunday during operating season.
