Wilderness Run Alpine Coaster in Banner Elk is North Carolina's first alpine coaster, where riders control bobsled-style cars down a 3,160-foot track. The coaster features three circular loops, a series of waves, and multiple twists and turns, reaching speeds up to 27 miles per hour. The ride suits all ages and operates daily throughout the year. Wilderness Run also operates the Adventure Course, a self-guided climbing experience with 28 obstacles across multiple levels for visitors seeking a different challenge. Both venues include gift shops and snacks. The Alpine Coaster location features a specialty coffee shop offering pastries and beverages. High Country Pie Company, located in the lower level of the Adventure Course building, serves fresh-baked New Zealand-style savory pies, breakfast pies, soups, and pastries made from scratch. A registered check-in time is required, and visitors should review coaster rules before arrival.
