Vollis Simpson Whirligig Park Museum & Gift Shop in Wilson preserves the legacy of folk artist Vollis Simpson through his innovative recycled metal sculptures that spin in the wind. The two-acre park displays 30 of Simpson's whirligigs, including some of his largest creations. Visitors explore the park's central lawn amphitheater, which hosts music and film events, and the park shelter, which accommodates the Wilson Farmers & Artisan Market, educational programs, and family activities. Benches, tables, and chairs throughout invite picnicking, reading, and relaxation among the sculptures. The park operates daily and welcomes leashed pets. Across the street, the Whirligig Park Museum & Gift Shop showcases Simpson's original whirligigs ranging from grand towering pieces to intricate tabletop works, along with a video kiosk exploring his life story. Group tours are available. The museum and gift shop operate Tuesday through Saturday. General admission to the park is free.
