The Blount-Bridgers House in Tarboro is a historic home that visitors can tour to learn about Thomas Blount, a Revolutionary War officer who later became a successful merchant. Blount served as a lieutenant and major in the 5th North Carolina Regiment of the Continental Army and fought at the Battle of Eutaw Springs. After the war, he established a merchant business with his brothers and moved to Tarboro to manage their store at the highest navigable point on the Tar River. The restored home features period furnishings and decor from the early 1800s visible in rooms like the parlor and dining room. Adjacent to the house, the Hobson Pittman Memorial Gallery displays works by the regional artist. The city-owned house is wheelchair-accessible and available for touring.
