About Ulster County Historical Society

Ulster County Historical Society is a museum housed in the Bevier House in Kingston, New York, where visitors explore paintings, prints, and portraits from the organization's permanent collection. The 2026 exhibition, Local Color, features Hudson Valley landscapes and local portraits, including Francesco Anelli's 1841 portrait of the three Hasbrouck children from one of Ulster County's prominent families. The museum presents the Sunday Salon Series, a program exploring Ulster County's cultural history through migration and arrival stories spanning from Indigenous peoples to contemporary residents. Programs run on Sunday afternoons at the Bevier House and examine how successive waves of people have transformed the region through choice, force, refuge, and opportunity. As the oldest county historical society in New York State, the organization has stewarded this visual and historical heritage for over 166 years. The museum operates on Sundays and welcomes families and individuals interested in regional art and history. Admission is charged, with membership available.
