Thornfield Heritage Farm north of Hillsborough is a working farm where visitors pet and observe rare and endangered livestock breeds. The farm raises Black Copper Marans chickens, Silver Appleyard ducks, African Dewlap Geese, Cotton Patch geese, kunekune pigs, Nigerian Dwarf goats, Valais sheep, and giant rabbit breeds, all cared for by Great Pyrenees livestock guardian dogs. Visitors can relax in the orchard watching rabbits play or interact with the animals, which are accustomed to being handled. The farm hosts music performances on select Saturday afternoons in its covered event pavilion, which also includes a fenced play set area for children under ten and a small store.
