Shrum Mound is one of the last remaining ancient conical burial mounds in Columbus, located within one-acre Campbell Park on McKinley Avenue. The mound stands 20 feet high and measures 100 feet in diameter, built approximately 2,000 years ago by the Adena culture, which flourished from 800 B.C. to A.D. 100. Visitors can walk around and observe this earthwork monument, which represents a significant example of prehistoric Native American construction and burial practices. The site suits anyone interested in archaeology, local history, or ancient cultures. A typical visit takes about 30 minutes to explore the mound and its surroundings within the park setting. The mound is named for the Shrum family, the original donors, while the park itself honors James E. Campbell, governor of Ohio from 1890 to 1892.
