About Orange Johnson House Museum

Orange Johnson House Museum in Worthington preserves one of central Ohio's oldest residences still standing in its original location, offering docent-led tours through rooms furnished with period pieces and historic artifacts. The 1811 pioneer section features low-ceilinged rooms, solid walnut wainscoting, a steep dogleg staircase, and an original open fireplace with iron crane and bread oven. In 1816, hornsmith Orange Johnson added a Federal-style wing with graceful entry details, curved fanlight, and four principal rooms, each with fireplaced mantels. Tours include exhibits on comb-making, the trade Johnson practiced, displayed alongside nineteenth-century women's hair combs and period tools. Lower-level exhibition rooms feature rotating collections from the historical society. Costumed guides describe everyday life among early Worthington settlers. Tours last approximately one hour and run Wednesdays and Sundays with online reservations required 24 hours in advance. The museum is in Worthington, Ohio.
