Settler's Pond Animal Shelter in Beecher is a no-kill rescue facility where visitors encounter exotic, domestic, and wild animals during educational visits. The shelter houses kangaroos, monkeys, porcupines, foxes, coatimundis, kinkajous, tortoises, camels, horses, goats, sheep, burros, cows, cats, dogs, and poultry. Families explore the Indoor Petting Zoo, Museum featuring over 3,000 toy tractors, Straw Maze, Corn Maze, and the Joyce Dennehy Exhibit with African Spurred Sulcata Tortoises, Patagonian Cavys, and Muntjac Deer. Visitors operate a Fiberglass Milking Cow, examine Seed Tables and Egg Displays, and play Putt Putt Mini Golf. The Barrel Train, Wagon Rides, and Carnival Rides are available. Depending on current residents, guests observe wildlife rehabilitation in action. Founded in 1998 on a family farm, the shelter rescues abused and abandoned animals, rehabilitates injured wildlife, and fosters animals for zoos and wildlife shelters.
