About Bonner Heritage Farm

Bonner Heritage Farm preserves heritage farm buildings donated by the Bonner family, including two farmhouses built around 1850 on land originally homesteaded in 1842 by Scottish immigrants William and Margaret Bonner. The eight-acre farm sits within McDonald Woods Forest Preserve in Lindenhurst and offers self-guided trails and exhibits that tell the story of the site's 19th-century inhabitants. Visitors hike the 1.9-mile section of the Millennium Trail running north through McDonald Woods, which connects to trails through Fourth Lake and Rollins Savanna forest preserves. The trail accommodates hiking, biking and cross-country skiing, with benches positioned for wildlife observation and rest. Amenities include drinking water, picnic tables, public parking and toilets. Summer camps and school and scout programs are available. The farm opens daily from early morning to sunset, welcoming families interested in local history and outdoor recreation.
