Liberty Prairie in Grayslake is a 95-acre organic farm and living laboratory where visitors explore sustainable agriculture and environmental stewardship. The farm store offers seasonal, organic, and local produce from farmers within 300 miles, along with goods from sustainable, small-scale producers. Visitors encounter animals including goats that manage the land, and an aquaponics system with koi. The Summer Farm Camp provides hands-on education for youth through farming and cooking activities. School districts, groups, and families use the Living Laboratory as an outdoor classroom to build awareness and appreciation of the land. Skillshare classes teach land-connected skills to the community. Located halfway between Chicago and Milwaukee, Liberty Prairie operates as a component of the Liberty Prairie Reserve, a distinctive open-space sanctuary dedicated to preserving and restoring woodlands, wetlands, prairies, agricultural fields, and farmsteads in the area.
