About Seneca Caverns

Seneca Caverns in Bellevue, Ohio is a registered natural landmark and one of the state's largest underground caverns. Visitors take a one-hour guided tour through The Earth Crack, walking natural stone steps and pathways down 110 feet below the surface to view Ole Mist'ry River, a crystal-clear flowing stream that is part of the region's vast groundwater system. The caverns remain electrically lit and preserved close to their original natural state, offering an authentic look at subterranean geology rich in fossils. The facility includes a shaded picnic area, a gift shop called Hollowrock Gifts, and gemstone mining activities where guests can search for stones. The cave maintains a constant temperature of 54 degrees Fahrenheit. The tour involves considerable walking and numerous steps over sloping, moist trails, making it moderately strenuous. Visitors should wear closed-toe shoes with good traction and bring a light jacket. The cave is not wheelchair or stroller accessible, and backpacks are not permitted.
