About Santa Clarita History Center
The Santa Clarita History Center at Hart Park lets visitors walk through eight historic buildings relocated from across Santa Clarita, along with a locomotive and caboose. The campus spans scenic grounds with oak trees and picnic areas. The Saugus Train Station Museum, originally built in 1888 as a Southern Pacific Railroad depot and hotel, anchors the site. The 4,350-square-foot building has been restored to reflect its most active period from 1917 to 1958. Visitors can see Mogul Engine No. 1629, a 75-ton Class M4 steam locomotive built in 1900 by Schenectady Locomotive Works. The site operates seven days a week, with the Saugus Train Station Museum open Saturdays and by appointment. A visit involves an easy walk through the grounds past restored period architecture, historic structures, and railroad equipment.
