The Reading Area Firefighters Museum preserves firefighting history in Reading and Berks County from inside a restored 1876 firehouse. Visitors tour the building's original rooms, including a John Wanamaker-designed "best room," and view firefighting memorabilia and antique furnishings throughout. The museum's collection includes fire apparatus and artifacts spanning the area's firefighting heritage. General admission tours accommodate individual visitors, while educational and school tours, large group and bus tours, and scouts and civic organization tours serve different audiences. The museum also hosts special events including the Kids Fire Prevention Fest and seasonal celebrations. Teachers can access curriculum resources tied to the exhibits. Video tours are available online for those unable to visit in person. The firehouse stands at a historic landmark site in the Callowhill Historic District, where a fire company has maintained headquarters since 1854.
