Rainbow Springs State Park in Dunnellon encompasses 1,472 acres centered on one of Florida's largest springs and the headsprings of the Rainbow River. Visitors swim, snorkel, tube, kayak, canoe, and fish in the crystal-clear waters. Guided kayak tours navigate the Rainbow River with equipment included. The day-use headsprings area features renovated gardens and waterfalls built on phosphate tailings, with nature trails winding through the grounds. In early spring, azaleas bloom throughout the headsprings in pinks, purples, and whites. The park offers ranger-guided walks and snorkeling expeditions at different times of year. Canoes and kayaks are available for rent at the headsprings. A visitor center, gift shop, food concession, and picnic pavilions serve guests. The separate campground six miles away provides overnight access to the river with additional nature trails through sandhill and oak hammock communities. Multiple concrete trails up to half a mile long are available throughout the park.
