About Prairie Nature Center - The Ohio State University at Marion
Prairie Nature Center at The Ohio State University at Marion preserves a restored native grassland ecosystem in the north-central part of the state. Visitors hike the trail system that winds through the 12-acre prairie, which was established in 1976 using locally collected seeds and plants to recreate the Sandusky Plains landscape that once dominated the region. The center features a small pond and an open-air shelter house. Wildlife viewing and bird watching draw naturalists interested in observing the center's native flora and fauna. The prairie is home to water fowl including mallards and song birds such as Red Winged Blackbirds and Barn Swallows. Visitors can help monitor the bird population during their time here.
