About Blues Creek Park

Blues Creek Park spans 138 acres of prairies, woodlands, wetlands, and a creek in Ostrander. Visitors hike, fish, sled, and geocache throughout the park's varied landscape. The 2.5 miles of trails include the 1.1-mile Shagbark Loop Trail, a gravel path passing through meadows and mature woods where shagbark hickory trees grow. Late summer and early fall bring displays of yellow, purple, and white wildflowers among tall prairie grasses. The park's restored wetlands and forested areas attract foxes, pheasants, kestrels, meadowlarks, American woodcock, and spring peepers. A catch-and-release fishing pond welcomes anglers of all ages without requiring a license. A central sledding hill offers winter recreation. Two picnic shelters and a playground with swings and climbing structures accommodate gatherings. Visitors can pack meals, spread blankets on open grass, and watch children play before walking the trails or casting lines into the pond.
