Port Isabel Lighthouse State Historic Site is a historic lighthouse open to the public for self-guided tours. Visitors climb the lighthouse stairs to view the 3rd Order Fresnel Lens, a historic lamp displayed at the top and illuminated nightly to a soft glow. The lens is visible up close but must not be touched, as fingerprints and oils damage its surfaces and brass frame. Children must be at least 5 years old to tour the lighthouse, and adults cannot carry children up or down the stairs. The site includes Lighthouse Park, open to the public, and the Keeper's Cottage Visitor Center, which has restrooms. Groups of ten or more may request an orientation at the base of the lighthouse or in the visitor center. The lighthouse closes during wet weather events and high wind days for safety.
