About Port Aransas Museum
The Port Aransas Museum preserves and interprets the history of Port Aransas through exhibits housed in a renovated 1900s kit house. Visitors explore permanent displays including the Fourth Order Fresnel lens that topped the Lydia Ann Lighthouse from 1878 to 1952, the bell from the train that transported rocks for the jetties, and the stern of the Farley Boat named Manny. The museum also features films of Port Aransas in the 1920s and 1930s and video interviews with important islanders. A publicly accessible database contains copies of more than 25,500 photographs and documents related to the city's history. Trained volunteer docents lead tours and work with schools on historical lessons and tutorials. The museum is located in Port Aransas and offers general admission that is free.
