About Ossining Historical Society

Ossining Historical Society is a museum in the Richard Austin house, built in 1878, where visitors explore exhibits about the town's heritage. Founded in 1931 by civic leader Fanny Kane, the society preserves Ossining's architectural and cultural history. The permanent collection spans three galleries and includes an 1830 landscape by Hugh Reinagle, extensive packaging and photographs from the Brandreth Pill Works, and a bell from the locomotive that carried Lincoln's body through Sing Sing en route to Springfield. The museum displays old photographs, books, artwork, family papers, and memorabilia donated by residents. Visitors also learn about the town's distinctive past through historic markers erected at significant sites throughout Ossining. The society hosts tours of historic homes around the village. Located in Ossining, New York, the museum serves as a repository for local history that documents the town's development and preserves memories of structures lost to fires and demolition.
