About National Civil Rights Museum

The National Civil Rights Museum in Memphis explores the history and legacy of the civil rights movement through permanent and rotating exhibits. Visitors explore galleries covering slavery in America from 1619 to 1861 in the exhibition "A Culture of Resistance," the Montgomery Bus Boycott of 1955 to 1956 in "The Year They Walked," and student sit-ins from 1960 in "Standing Up by Sitting Down." The museum also features rotating exhibitions such as "Black Joy, In Spite of…" exploring joy as resistance. A typical visit takes one and a half to two hours to explore the exhibits at your own pace. The museum hosts in-person and virtual events throughout the year, including Democracy Day in Action and the Freedom Award. The museum is located in the South Main District in downtown Memphis and offers free parking for guests. Tickets are sold online through the venue's website, and hours and admission prices are published on the museum's site.
